Why not rebuild and tune the Q-jet? They are a good carb and the cost for a kit and a bucket of carb cleaner is around $50, a new carb is many times that. And unless the carb is also a spreadbore like the Q-jet you'll need an adapter to mount it to the stock intake (not usually recommended), or a different intake. Then there's the throttle bracket needed to hook the throttle and detent cables up.

That said, Summit sells a clone (Summit brand) of the Holley 4010 that's a decent carb and is the cheapest carb they sell, I believe. Some guys like the Edelbrock Performer/AVS carb. Then there's the tried and true Holley vacuum secondary 600 cfm. Using one of these on an Edelbrock intake like the Performer EPS p/n 2701 will wake up a stock engine a little. Using long tube headers and dual exhaust helps even more, but will usually require a floor mounted shifter.

Summit has some rebuilt Q-jets that aren't too expensive, but I have had no experience w/them.
