LOL-Ok maybe that's taking you too far back!!!.Hehe.
The thing is with hot tanking the caustic method of yrs gone past is pretty much done with because of the EPA reg's and the serious fines/jail time.Also it was a hazard to the people doing the hot tanking too.
Here is a series of articles from engine build magazine of what shops are doing to clean parts.One machine used in tranny shops is like a huge dish washer with the tranny in the center of a tank and nozzles that spin around the part.Some shops have gone to soda blasting.
I guess my point after you skim through the articles,you might decide it is best let a good shop handle the cleaning.

Hot tank wont hurt the cylinder walls, you want to hone them before rebuilding anyways. It will take out the cam bearings. Also, best to replace the frost plugs.
Why not wire wheel it to get that paint off?

Ft Worth Machine Shop?? Engine cleaning
Have a 350 bored 60 over that I've got stripped to the block. Tried power washing the paint off with 3800 psi and that ugly yellow paint won't come off all the way!!! Anyone know of a good machine shop in fort wort, Texas that can get it clean?
And since it already been bored is a hot tank going to hurt the cyclinder walls?
Also have the phase 1 bowtie heads with the same awful paint!!!
