It originally did not click but my lifters according to my mechanic were not tightened correct so I cut holes into my old valve covers and had the engine running at idle. After going through the process I heard a loud tick that went with the engine no lags. I gave it gas it accelerated the click continuously. Oil pressure was just above 30.
Temp of engine was roughly 190-200

|68NovaSS||Short of checking the obvious, collapsed lifter or flat lobe, I don't have an answer, but lean toward a bad lifter. Was it ticking before rebuild? Perhaps there's a restriction in the pushrod body or oil passage to that lifter. You have good oil pressure? Have you run it with the valve cover off, (with oil restrictor clips), to see if it's oiling?|

In the 454's early days GM had an inherent issue with valve train noise. My brother bought a brand new 1974 454 Suburban with the same problem from day one, the dealership never did figure it out. Fortunately for him he was half deaf from a Vietnam GSW, he was good with it.
I have a tick in my BBC T-Bucket, currently changing over to a roller setup, curious to see if it goes away. I originally thought it was a roller rocker hitting the VC on the top side, but not so sure after grinding additional clearances and not seeing any new witness marks. I'll find out if it's an oiling issue when I fire it up.

I recently put in a freshly rebuilt 454 into my k10
The lifters were making some noise so I went through the process and loosened till they ticked and then tightened 1/4 turn.
I did this process 3 times but I still have a tick inside the motor somewhere that was not there originally.
