|woodz428||Larry,you sweet talker.Ford was a little later than the others in stamping serial #'s, but by 1969 it was pretty standard. The serial # (the chassis VIN) should be stamped on the drivers side rear of the block just below the head om a raised rectangular pad. It is coarse cast and you sometimes have to look closely in order to see it,but with a mirror and a light and sometimes a piece of chalk or crayon to help highlight it, you can make it out. I have seen the #'s on other machined pads over the years, but I think those were the exception.|

an fe block won't have any numbers that will tell you 100% what it is, as you could swap out the cranks and have a 427, 410, 390, 360 or even a 352 (unlikely). the only way i know of to see without pulling the motor and removing the oilpan, is to pull the intake and a head, and measure the bore and stroke.
Woodz can tell you a whole lot more than i can, but here are some dimensions...
... ... bore x stroke
390ci 4.05" x 3.78"
406ci 4.13" x 3.78"
410ci 4.05" x 3.98"
427ci 4.23" x 3.78"
428ci 4.13" x 3.98"
if it was me, i'd wait for Woodz reply before i started pulling the intake you might check out club cobra they have a pretty good fe forum...
and if i'm not mistaken, the date codes on fe blocks are right underneath the oil filter adapter, upside down of course....

I'm not really a Ford guy, but try this bulletin board, submit a VIN and they will tell you.

Its suppose to be a 69 mustang mach1 428 scj ram air. The Vin number checks out 9t02r132263. I has the shaker hood with the ram air controlls. But i know about as much on ford motors then the man in the moon. I want to know how to check to see if indeed it is the original engine. The guy I bought it from bought it in 69 (showed title) I said it is the original engine but how can you tell for sure?
