Just went out and checked,hanger(center)bearing rubber is broken loose of the carrier part,but pinnion flange area seems real tight.Just bought the van,had bad axle seal leak may have run low on fluid before I got to it???

BstMech Check the pinion flange (drive shaft) for slop, it's probably the crush sleeve.

GMC diff whines

I have an '89 gmc van.The rear end whines above 35 m.p.h. then is quiet at highway speed(55 or more)also is quiet accellerating uphill.I suppose it's worn carrier bearings am I correct???
