Ok so I've outgrown my 24 x36 ft shop &we plan on building a really nice big shop come febuary but I need space now!My building is a monoslope meaning its just a pitched roof like on a lean too..well it'll be very simple for me to add another 18 x 24 & we would leave the doors on that's there now so that this will be its own seperate room which I plan to use only for paint,as right now I do mg bodywork & wrenching in the same area that I paint & boy oh boy have I been having issues with getting dust in my clear.
So the addition I definitely need it.Right now me & my helper have 2 trucks 6 cars & 2 motorcycles here & my helper needs someone working with him so if I have him well in a locker someone else to do other than the rocker on the other side while I do a quarter etc but with the limited space & all of the shop equipment Ive accumulated its not possible so I figure with the additon a car or two can sit back there to free up space until it's time to paint. So it will only be used for shorts towards and for paint. So my biggest question is would it be smarter to just run water over the floors & squeegee it out before I spray &have the walls wraped in tyvek or tarps so that I can spray those down also & maybe a drain in the floor.
I've considered a phone booth but then when I get my big shop I would have to break it down and move it but it seems to me if I have one sealed off room where no dust gets in it'll work.So feel free to post your thoughts & ideas maybe you could tell me what setup your using. Thanks
Btw I paint A LOT & once I higher another helper I should be painting 1-2 cars a day

Please excuse any typos or terseness: this email was sent from my mobile and I have clumsy fingers.

I paint a car every couple of years and get along nicely without a booth but anyone who is going to paint even 1 car a week can not afford not to have a booth. The time and labor it takes to prepare a place to paint and then deal with the contamination you get will more than pay for the ooth.

John is absolutely right Cut. A booth is a luxury, that is affordable by the amount of use it gets. The key to a dust free paint job is to not put any dirt in your paint...LOL Seriously, some of the cleanest paint jobs I've done have been done in a homemade booth environment....housekeeping is what's important.

A lot of people think a paint booth magically eliminates dirt in the paint when in reality, if there isn't any dirt in the area, on the painter or on the vehicle, there won't be any on the car when painted.

In your case it's a matter of spending your your money wisely and making decisions that will benefit you in the future. If your making your work place bigger, that's great...perhaps build your addition with adding a booth in the future in mind...this will give you goals and also more work space immediately.

We've been talking back and forth for almost a year and I will say, you have made great strides...I'm proud of how far you've come in a relatively short time. Keep listening to guys like John and others and you will have your booth, a bigger shop and be more productive before you know it...patience my friend, patience.

Dust, Dirt, and Overspray.

We have been getting on just fine for thirty years without a booth, but then again, we maybe paint a car a year. Our trick is to run the exhaust fans all night, pulling any particulate out of the air and putting it back outside. The next morning, we wet the floor, install our filters, hit the fans again, and start spraying. But with the volume you are wanting to crank out, I would make this new addition a dedicated booth.
