firestone I think you are right about the 1.7's, my mistake.

Sandflea427SS I believe the big Chevy comes stock with 1.7 rockers

firestone The first thing that you can do to that motor is put a bigger cam in it. They come undercammed and that should make a sizeable difference. I would look at someting like the comp cams XR288HR 236 242 dur @.050, .521 .540 lift powerband 2500-6000. your motor already has a roller cam in it, so the lifters can be used on whatever cam you decide to buy as long as its a roller. Air gap is also a realy good idea. I would also try 1.7 rockers.

Super Streeter You can find some power with this combo for not much cash.I would tear it down to a shortblock and send the heads out for a competition valve job and bowl blend and have the springs checked.Swap out the factory cam for a 502/502 cam,or similar grind, and add a performer rpm airgap intake and 850 cfm double pumper. With 1 7/8" headers this is a solid 500 hp combo or even a tad more. All the above will cost you under $1000 and give you 502/502 performance for a few bucks less.Good luck.

Robinson Robin ya I have heard the 454 HO crate engine has enormous potential (as long as you don't mind losing the warranty)

gt2betubbed Give the specs of the 454 now, detailed ones.
Compression, heads, cam, intake, carb, ignition. Then we'll see what can be done.

5-7heaven howziit guy!

JMO, the possibilities are mindboggling. as we speak, CHEVY PERFORMANCE and CAR CRAFT are flogging their own 454HO engines. CP'S FRANKENRAT produced 800+HP, CAR CRAFT'S supercharged Rat made 926 streetable HP!

GM 454 Crate Motor

I just purchased a new GM 454 (425 HP) crate motor and is there any thing that I can add to this motor to give me any more horsepower?
