I'm looking for a polished aluminum oil pan (sbc) with the oil plug on the side in the stock postion. All I find on E-bay are the pans with the plugs on the bottom. With a low ride I am worried about shearing the plug off. Maybe it'll be fine. Does anyone know who might sell this? A website to look at? Thanks
With a low ride I think I'd be more concerned about the pan contacting the road. Those aluminum pans are cast aluminum which will break just like cast iron if it hits something hard. Unlike steel that will dent first cast aluminum won't dent before it breaks. One good hit and you'll dump every drop of oil in your crankcase in just a few seconds.
Thank you Centerline for your input and point taken. As far as looking in catalogs? I have...many. I was trying to get some ideas from experienced Hot Rodders and usually do. Thanks
I thought you all ready know the pro's and con's and were looking for a place to buy one, as I read the posting.
Since you don't know, measure the bottom of your old pan front and rear for depth. Since you will be asked this while ordering from a catalog place for clearance reason's to the sub-frame.
Get a good one with the plug set in a recess for protection, one the side of the pan.
Steel ones only bend, either way if you hit you loose, try a skid plate if not sure to protect it.
As for a web site try Google under engine oil pans. http://www.google.com/
it's just aluminum....would you consider plugging the hole and putting one in the place you want it....
I have a grungy polished alum. pan I'll modify for you.
I was told aluminum is the worst oil or tranny pan to install. Just one good size rock or pot hole that will be the end of your engine or tranny oil. Stick to tin and you will smile the miles away.
Where do you live in Toronto I have heard that next to San Fransisco. The next biggest gay population is in Toronto. Gays can also marry in Toronto. Hats off to a country not afraid of something a bit different.
