no offence taken

The intent being to present question's to the new to hotrodding guys that might help them or answer a question they would NOT know the answer's too. Some people are afraid to ask questions because they don't want to look stupid for asking questions where the answer is obvious to others.

spl_dodge What gives with the way you started with this thread? I mean no ill-intentions at all, but I couldn't figure out if you were attempting to bash someone or if you were actually asking these questions???

Of course, after reading through the posts after your first entry, I realized that you knew the answers..but I am still puzzled as to why you opened in the manner that you did.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to drag racing. The closest I have been was my ex-gilrfriend. Her father is Ronnie Smith (Loganville, Ga) aka: Mr.Quick. When I was dating his daughter, he had the title of World's Fastest 68 Camaro but that was 14 years ago. I think then he went to World's Fastest All steel bodied Camaro and last I heard, he was the world's fastest "something-or-another" firebird.....

Anyway, (again without any bashing intended) What's your point?

71montebbc I have an old tape that I have kept for years. Its called, fabulous floppers. narrated by, Don the snake and Kenny Bernstein. It shows that in the early days that manufactures of crysler, with there big boys dominated the track. And the other man. such as chevy and ford started building their big cubes. They say thats when These big companies, really got into it to see who could be the fastest. It took awhile to beat chrysler at first. I thought it was some neat info.

tm454 The 14 point cage is for use in Sportsman class. And the 10 point cage Is the one I use in my pro-street cars. The 8 point is the least protection and cost only $149.

Yes there is money to win but you must register with the manufacturers you represent/stickers before you race. There really is a reason to plaster your car with stickers when you drag race at the track!!

Real racers use Real safety gear. You ever seen a blower blown off an engine? Or hot oil catch fire when a rod goes through the pan? You will want a fire suit when you get out of the street stock classes.

Racing wheels will bend easily or even collapse when they hit a bump or hole in the street, use racing wheels only on the track.

The NHRA is the reason racing came to the tracks from the street. Timing was recorded and safety was a must. Some of the old dragsters were nothing more than a frame with a seat attached.

Do you have anything you want to add?

BstMech I know that I consider an eight point roll cage exotic, but a fourteen point....that's a jungle gym isn't it?

You mean you can actually win money?

A fire suit? That's an old pair of blue jeans and a tee shirt that you don't mind getting burn holes in right?

Racing wheels on the street? Depends on what your racing against.

And for the last one I would have to say for SAFETY?

Rubberman2003 I suppose i was at least half right.

I think you got it right snake man!

The NHRA was an attempt to organize the outlaw/street racers and make racing safer off the street. I am sure there was one to many accident or near miss and the guys racing thought a track might be the way to go. And a sanctioning body to make things official as far as posting times was necessary also.

Rubberman2003 Wasnt the NHRA made to help cut down on street racing, to justify it? Could be wrong, just a guess.

So, you want to run with the Big Dogs??

Do you know the difference between 8,10 and 14 point roll cages?? So, your a weekend warrior at the track, where is the money?? You know the prize money, how do you collect the prize money, contingency postings from a winning run?? How and when do you pick a fire suit?? Should you be tempted to run racing wheels on the street? The NHRA was established for a reason, do you know what that reason was?
