I have done a good bit of mandrel cut and fit exhaust. I actually love the work. It is fun to put it all together to me. It is more work than paying someone else but it is how I want it when I am done. I probably have 20 different pieces in the S10 crossover pipes and downpipes. Everyone requires tweaking, but you get better and better at it. I can eyeball most cuts close enough to make it work now......maybe just a little grinding
Anyway, I understand the work, but I like it...

Yo Centerline, that's awesome. I've been under mine for the past few weeks trying to get a transmission in, so I don't think I'll have too much gripe about trying to piece together some tubes soon. You got any pics of it? I'd like to see how it turned out.

I had the same problem as the rest of you guys when it came to buying the tubing. But......... when all else fails JC Whitney to the rescue. I bought enough 90*, 45*, and 180* bends to to the entire dual system for about $100. I also bought a crossover pipe kit from Summit. I think it was about $40.
Whatever straight pipe I need I'll just pick up from a local muffler shop but I don't expect to spend over $200 total for the entire system including the turbo mufflers. (I bought a couple Hemi Challenger square chrome exhaust tips at a swap meet last year and I'm not counting what they cost me )

Exhaust Depot 10- 180 deg = $199.20
4- 90 deg =$ 62.00
4- 120 deg =$ 78.88
For a Grand Total of $340.08 + shipping
For that price I think that I would go with Summit on their bends. Besides Summit has free shipping.
I guess I'll just have to search a little harder for someone around here that has a mandrel bender OR have to deal with regular bends in the pipe.

i wanted to do my own exhaust, but out of mig gas, wire, and patience. i just wanted it done. so add exhaust to the list of things i did not do myself.
1. machine work on block.
2. laying out of the flames.
not bad for a rookie.
Centerline, does it look Kustom?

Yea Weimer I'm curious too, does anyone sell an assortment of bends that would be needed to do your own system? I could only find one exhaust shop that does mandrel bent systems in the Tri State area. I've got the tools and the time, I would save myself a small fortune doing the system on my project. Well maybe I'll leave bending the tail pipes up to a pro.

CL....I am going to build my own exhaust on the S10, mainly because it has to be a very tight fit, and absolutely NOTHING can hang below the frame or to close to the cab floor.
Where did you get the box of bends at?

Cut, Fit, Grind, Fit, Weld, Grind, Repeat
I've watched guys at muffler shops bend up custom exhaust systems many times but never tried to do it myself till today. With a box of mandrel bends, a saws-all, and my trusty Mig welder I started on the trucks exhaust. Spent all afternoon and managed to get both header pipes done from the exhaust manifolds back to the trans. I think I crawled under that truck about 40 times today. It's a labor intensive process but the hard part is done and the rest is pretty much a straight shot back to the rear end. Next time though I'm going to use a lift. My back will definitely appreciate it.
