I am planning on purchasing a HVLP spray gun and I am wondering what everyone else's opinion is on this type of gun. I have never used this type of gun yet, but would like to paint my HOTROD this following summer with one. I looked at a Craftsman model but the plastic paint can (where you put the paint) seemed kind of small (smaller than the conventional type) are they all smaller? Can you run the gun completely empty with this type (eliminating paint waste)? How much air pressure would you generally use for HVLP? Does the paint cover more area/go further with HVLP? What else can you tell me about this type of gun? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANYBODYS ADVICE........ <img src="graemlins/mwink.gif" border="0" alt="[mwink]" />

just bought a devilbiss finnish line.It had trhe liners for the cup.Too much of a hassle.It was about 125 and came with two tips...a 1.4 and a1.8.I use the 1.8 for primers and surfacers and the 1.4 for base coat and clear.Im not a proffessional so i dont need to spend the 400 for a pros gun.I hope this opinion helps.

I'm the same way. Not a pro painter but bought two guns that according to the paint supplier where made by Sata and Sharp. A guy standing at the counter commented that he was using them with no problems.

The "kit" came with two guns and a pressure gauge for just over $110. The bodies look just like the Sata guns I was showed. One gun has a 1.4 tip and the other has a 1.7 tip. Hope they work for my one job but if not i'm sure it will not be because of the gun.

Not to make matters worse but Ive read some good things about the Astro HVLP. At the same site as linked above, I picked her up with two other tips (1.3, 1.5 & 1.7) for arnd $130. I havent used it yet but hope to in the next month. I also ordered that HF HVLP Detail gun for $40 but it was backordered till just the other day, Im super relieved that ppl here have had good results with it, I was planning on using it for smaller jobs!

I have been trying to get a comparison on these for a while, and still no dice;

(SATA SAT92xxx series or the DeVilbiss GFG670 , both of these are the new Reduced pressure series)

I think I have read other opinions on the new DeVilbiss, but absolutely no direct comparison anywhere between these two.

Must be a misunderstanding or they RE-used a number. This is the BRAND NEW Sata Reduced Pressure gun with digital readout in handle. This gun came out just this year. Here is a full reference number and description, this gun is new from SATA:

SATA - SAT92106- SATAJET RP DIGITAL 2 1.3 PAINT SPRAY GUN W/1L ALUM CUP

I probably needed to use the full number to explain. The other numbers are 92098 and 92086-1. These are the same gun, just specifying a differnt tip size.

Sata RP.
Now your talking a real gun if you can afford it, if not go second best. This has all been covered in above posts. Its what you want to spend and how good you are of a painter.
I want no peel and I only spray high solids clears so I cant use the D-gun. A lot of people do and it works for them.

Comparison, its like comparing a Yugo, Chev, Ford to a Mercedes
They all perform at what they are suppose to do but its all how you look when you arrive!
