Look into the history of Rodding '40Ford?????? near every real bulder has done it. Everybody for different reasons, some because they're partial to certain brands, IE: Me
Some for nessecity, use what you got.... Is their a problem with this? Sure you got a '40 Ford, but if all you had was a well built SBC, no money for a SBF, would you say thats WRONG?
How about the old Gasser guys, you know guys who run old Willy's, should these guys have to run a Willy's power?
Just so you know my '32 Ford will be powered by a 409 Chebby, pi$$ you off? This is hot rodding pal.

I saw a late 67 Mustang one time at a car show in SandPoint Idaho, that was a total restoration, probably the nicest early I've Mustang ever seen. We just walked behind it, and noticed them little Chevy Bowtie exhaust tips. Looked under the hood, same thing SBC What a beautiful thing, a nice car with out the Blue Oval power plant. Loved it.
As for the guys who say make/make only, no "Cross breeds", your crazy. This has been happening since the beginning of hot rodding, as Poncho said..... Thats HotRodding, deal with it. Also if you don't like the idea of it, don't do it yourself.

Being a GM mechanic, I prefer the GM engines.
The only reason we used a Mustang for this project is that it's the smallest, lightest car we could find that was originally RWD. We could have used a Monza or Vega, or something like that, but they are quite scarce around here, or in terrible condition.
Using the lightest car available, we can go fast without having to build an engine with 700 hp to do it. My 350hp SBC should turn out numbers in the low 11's in this stripped out car where we'd have to make much more HP (read more $$) to get a 3400lb Camaro to do the same times.
Light car, big engine....THAT'S hotrodding!

ive seen two 87-93 mustangs with sbc's in them, one ran 10's with a 327, my buddy is a mustang freak, he thought it was the sweetest mustang he had ever seen until he heard what was in it, the other one showed up at a cruise night, very loud, nicley built, everyone crowded around it, then they noticed a chevy emblem molded in where the ford emble should be in the grill, then he poped the hood and the was a tricked out 350 sbc, he ran 11's.
i like mustangs, hate working on ford engines, seems like a good idea to me. but its better if you dont tell them whats under the hood until you whoop them in a race. the expression on their face, especially if its a ford guy, would be priceless.
