|Guitar Charlie||Oops brain fart! They are 64cc's|

|sb72elcamino350||I thought they were 64cc heads?|

|Guitar Charlie||Nope, 67cc|

|MI2600||This nice thing about the XE268 is you can use a stock converter. If you go higher than the 268 you have to loosen up.|

|bhj||I have the 268 in my 400 and am happy with it for now. This winter doing a rebuild and switching to AFR heads and the comp cam 280, running turbo 350 with a new currie 350 gears in the rear. I'm looking for a more aggressive cam and hp is the reason....|

|MI2600||I've got an almost identical 406. I went with a Comp XE268 and it runs good. A bit more duration, but it's power band is something like 1600-5000.|

I was thinking about a bigger cam but didn't want to commit to a torque converter, trying to keep the budget kinda low if possible.

my vote would also be a bigger cam. ^ Chris' advice is pretty bulletproof, stick with that-

Bump the stick to around 212/218 @ .50", with 400 CID that will be mild, give good vac, nice throaty sound.

|Guitar Charlie||No just a street rod and occasionally hauling of music gear to the next gig.|

|dmc12mk3||Will this be a truck that would haul a trailer or anything?|

My sbc 400 build up, please review
I have been reading many, many posts in regards to the sbc 400 and thought I'd run my plans past you guys. Here goes...
The vehicle is a '41 Chevy pick up with at MII front end and a chevy rear end, around 3.5 gears not totally sure because the tag is missing but by hand it seems to be in that ball park. Vehicle weighs 2900lbs
The engine build up plan is sbc 400, new scat crank, 5.7 rods, KB 18cc dished pistons, vortec heads (64cc) w/z28 springs and worked to .550 lift, perfomer intake (not rpm) and mild cam 204/216. The tranny is 700r4 but might be a t-350 if the 700r4 doesn't work out.
This is a light vehicle and I want a good idle, good vacum and plenty of HP and torque.
What do you all think?
Would you go with a more aggresive cam and a torque converter (TCI Saturday night special) or is this plenty for this vehicle that would be driven on the weekends and occasionally daily driving.
