Hi all,

Looking to replace my 1964 220 SEb type W111 Mercedes Benz's straight 6 with either a small block ford or chevy looking to see if anyone has attempted this or if someone knows of a kit for the mounts etc.

I did see someone on ebay had a 67 250 with a v8 chevy so it can be done!

Anyone have any ideas for my Euro Chevy/Ford?

v8 into Mercedes W111,Finny

I'm doing one these at the moment,but a little different,I have a 1970 300SEL 3.5 V8 which I am using as a parts car for a 300SEL 6.3 (!!!) i'm restoring.
I have a w111 finny that is nearly perfect (original black paintETC) The 3.5 V8 will bolt straight into the W111 and it's just a matter of locating the oil cooler in the front of the car.I am going to use all mercedes parts because it's a "leggO" job!.I will have a light weight (relativly) car with a engine that can push a 2 ton car to 130mph easily,4 speed auto,4 wheel disc brakes, and i'll be running it on propane because i'm a cheap .....
To bolt in a small block you only need to fab the side mounts and a trans mount, install the diff of choice using the two mercedes torque arms and fab up a watts link to stop it floating around. The mercedes has a split rear axle which although it's strong in the V8 versions, the old six diff will break the CV joint.Use the original front end,it's a gem that works perfectly, you can buy spares such as king pins and so on any where.Mercedes were right up on performance stuff so you can bilstein dshoks etc to stiffen it up for better cornering.Disc brakes were stock from 1964 so use the them or bolt on the larger V8 versions.
There are a couple of V8 mercedes here in Brisbane and they drive great, real sleepers which look like grandads old beater but will blow the doors of any jap rubbish.
Cheers ron b.:welcome:

I remebered a guy in Florida who has done this,Dereck Jetmar,he's also put a 6.3 liter motor into a 280SL ,Madness on wheels!dereks v8 W111

Hot Rod Mercedes

Close but no cigar. The one running around my neighborhood is a mid 80's job, very boxy looking. Not sure of it, but I think the model number on the trunk is 350 or 360 SE, something like that. One of those Roadsters you would normally see some uptown lady driving out to the Country Club for private "tennis" lessons and martinis, instead of being a terror at the Stop Light Grand Prix. .

This one looks totally stock, other than a little wider than normal tires on the back, and doesnt have a huffer on it.

Merc V8 in a Merc roadster

Merc.6.3 in Merc roadster
This is the type of car you mean,I guess.the "107" model usually 350SL to 560 SL .again very similar mechanics to the w111 but with the different body and quite heavy. Not my "cup of tea".exept this one which was built from a brand new car back in the day.The 6.3 (386 cu in ) was the greatest engine Mercedes ever built and even in my one i can smoke up the tyres in three gears with out planting the foot. In the big heavy 300SEL it will run 0-60 in under 7 seconds and the 1/4 around high 14 sec. This IS a stock 1969 car.!Check out Don Garlits article in the old road and track mag when he road tested one across the states.
Now imagine this engine in a car half the weight of a 300SEL.....
The point of all this is,"you can put any size engine into a w111 and have great handling ,classic styled car with out a great deal of effort,or money."
There is a couple of good sites for these things
www.m-100.cc and www.heckflosse.nl
Lots of information on something different.:D
Cheers Ron B.
