the OE powerglide will not be up to the task. It will need some upgrades , since I will guess that you plan to work the 383 motor at times.

|tony00||This trans. is hooked to the original 327/300 in a 1966 Chevy Caprice. I am thinking about replacing it with a 383 stroker (approx. 400 HP). What do ya'll think?!?|

A glide from behind a v-8 is a bit better if you are not going to freshen the trany.
You can determine the gear ratio of the planetary by measuring the diameter of the splined section that sticks out of the tail housing. A vernier caliper will work
there is a slight difference in diameter size from the 1.82 & the 1.76 gear ratios.

there are two planetaries that have different gear ratios.
You may want to check that out.

The engines of that era were rated at up to 275+ horsepower with the powerglide behind them.
If it gets a rebuild with the right parts (it will cost a lot) they can handle much more than that.

What kind of HP can a stock 1966 model powerglide handle? It does have over 100,000 miles on it, but never abused. (typical story: old lady only drove to church and to get groceries.)
