MY CAR CAR HAS BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND IM TIRED OF IT. ABOUT ONCE OR TWICE A DAY WHILE DRIVING MY CAR JUST DIES OUT. ITS LIKE IM RUNNING OUT OF GAS. ILL PULL OVER WAIT A MIN TURN THE KEY AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP. IVE CHANGED THE GAS FILTER BY THE CARBURATOR, ADJUSTED THE FUEL/ AIR MIXTURE (HELPED A LIL BUT STILL DIES) WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
Check the fuel inlet on the carb. Some GM carbs (Rochester mostly) had another filter just inside the filler tube that will do exactly what yours is doing if it gets clogged.
Could be junk plugging the inlet tube in the tank?? When you shut it off the debris settles away from the tube, then when you start it the debris gets sucked up against the inlet again. Something to check if all else fails.
They are notorious For heating up and dying out. When it cools down a minute later, it will restart...If you have it tested, have them do it several times (to get it good and hot) for a fail test.
Check the coil, (when hot or after it dies..) it should read between 6k and 30k on the ohms scale between the "BATT" terminal and the rotor button pickup inside the cap if it's good.
If that's good I'd look at a fuel pump going south...If you had a clog in the tank pickup, you'd hear the pump run all the time trying to "Catch up" ..
