Now that I am in the parts cleaning mode I would like to paint the chassis parts as I go..

There lies a problem..I have no idea on colors..:pain:

I would like to keep it simple but then use something other than black or black primer..

As long as the colors work well with the final on the body I'll be happy..This is supposed to be a Shoestring Rat car so please bear that in mind..

Thanks

hmm

i got lots of ideas for colors lol.

you nevermentioned what color he body will be final wise.

if your car is going to have trim of a differ color use the trim color for the chassis parts

I'm not a real Rat rod fan but about two weeks ago I was at Starbucks and a guy pulled up in a 32.
The engine and frame were bright red and 5 coats of clear.
Some of the parts on the frame were black and than yellow shocks- all very glossy.

Now the body! Black epoxy with red leather interior.

It was a beaut, its the first one I ever looked twice at.

Color ideas

Barry,

I was thinking along the lines of a three color scheme for the car I have not picked any color for the body yet..Yellow, Red or blue come to mind..

I woudl like to have it look nice nice..even if it is a rat it can be a nice looking rat..

I would like to use simple products for painting as well as I do not have a paint booth and would like to use products that I can use in my own carport so to speak..soo I am staying away from the more exotic types of paint..Candys and metalflake since it is more of a race style of car

Any way some of my thoughts..maybe I will come up with some choices..

Thanks

right

you have a compressor and a gun?

your regular old paints would look good if you put a couple coats of urethane clear over them.

come to think of it blue and red contrast real good. its an odd mix but if you painted the body a deep blue.. and the chassis a bright red i think you could get a really cool look out of it

black body with blue chassis would be clean too.

Paint gun

I do have a compressor and gun..just a cheapy but it seems to work ok..

I think I will get a pint of the dark blue and the red and spray a sample out to see how it looks together..

I am thinking of using Hammerite on the suspension and rear end components as it is a silvery gray color..that shoudl ook pretty nice..

Thats a good resource

give a fellow some good input..I gatta admit that painting is not my favoriter thing ..much prefer fabricating and let the experts do the cool paint..

I do like the orange and blue tho..that looks cool..

Orange body work with blue on the chassis would stand out well I would think..

I am kinda liking the silver hammerite on the rear end and the moving parts of the chassis..easy to do and easy to fix..My talents do not run to being "artistic" so the paint will be plain so to speak..

thanks

Viper red

Barry,

I think that I like the Viper red myself as it looks just a bit dunno "classier" than the bright red..of course the computer does not render the colors right on but it does give me a good idea of the relative shades of color..

Thanks Again..

frame

nothing is cooler than a clean glossy frame :pimp:

hmm who said green and brown... are you antagonizing me? my 944 is brown inside and out and i opted for a deep dark metallic green for the paint. ( with phosperous glow in the dark blue ghost flames )

i dont know how long after i paint it i will be able to take that brown before i hack it out for black.

i heard something about orange and blue..
that sounds good.

dont you think if you use the silver color it would look too much like metal and noone would be able to tell you went thru all the trouble to paint it?
black.. on the body its great but on the chassis its normal ..

get crazy - go pink on the frame and canary yellow on the body.
ha ha i had a pink car once it was wack

Silver stuff

I have used that particular material on things like truck racks and such and it looked good and held up fairly well to some rough use..kinda hard to describe how it looks except to say it produces a hammered look and it is a decent rust preventative..

I do need to paint as I am doing the car from scratch and need to do something to slow down the rust a bit so why not pick out some sort of color scheme from the get go and just paint as I go..

I am planning on using industrial enamel to paint the car as I have used that sort of thing before with some good results and that is keeping with the theme and goal of a affordable end result..

This has been a big help to me to get some ideas on colors to use on the car..

Thanks to everyone..

Paint everything Chevy orange, whether it's a Chevy or not, and for a nice effect, do purple polkadots on every other piece.

;-)

If i could do polka-dots without having it dripping down, i'd do my engine block over with them...

;-)

People would ask why, and I'd say cuz that's a SICK engine!!
