Hey all,
I'm wondering about exhaust on my 34 Ford coupe project. I'm running a 351W matted to a T-5 5-speed trans. The body is fiberglass, and I have been talking to some guys about heat transfer from exhaust if I run regular headers. They told me a good idea is to run block hugger style headers. I found a few companies that make them, but what do you guys think? Where does the exhaust exit...right by the motor mount? Will they fit good and clear a manual trans, starter, and motor mounts, spark plugs, etc.?
What I was thinking of doing was ordering a pair of shorty headers, H-pipe, and the rest from flow master for the regular Mustang 5.0...bolt it all up and weld the seams. Would that work? I think I'm liking the idea about the hugger headers for a clean look. Exhaust goes straight down and no heat transfer by the firewall. But what about an H-pipe? Wouldn't the exhaust suffer because of no cross-over pipe in the system? Does anyone make a kit for the block hugger headers( some cutting required obviously).
This is all going on a Street Beast 3 window coupe..not a real 34 Ford frame. Any thoughts on the exhaust issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Dave
