454me If I remember correctly its on the rear of the tranny on the right side. You cant miss it, it will have a vacuum line attached. I think it just unscrews. I dont think ford used any bolts to hold it in. But then I have not owned a ford since my 65 mustang. Got rid of it in 78.
12-29-2004 08:13 AM Again, I am not that familiar with Phord stuff but if it is like a GM 350, modulator is stuck on the back of the tranny with a single bolt and lug. 2 minute replacement job. Looks just like it should - a 2" diameter vacuum canister with a 1/8" vacuum hose stuck on it.

bct I think you're on to something Willys36. I noticed that the last time I checked my trans fluid it was very low. I added a couple of quarts before it reached the full line. Can I get to the modulator from under the vehicle? Or is their an access panel some where? Thanks for your help.
12-28-2004 08:16 PM Are you sure it isn't tranny fluid instead of engine oil? I'm not sure what Ford Trannys were doing in '94 but if they have a vacuum modulator, it is common for those to lose a rubber diaphragm and engine vacuum to suck the fluid out of the tranny. TF doesn't combust very well so it goes right through the engine, thus the blue smoke. It will eventually get so bad that liquid TF will be blowing out the tail pipe. If that isn't it, trace the hoses back to their origination and see which one is gooey.

Oil in vacuum port

I have a 94 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 engine. The engine has a vacuum port that has 4 vacuum lines running to it. I have been getting motor oil in the vacuum port. I'm not sure where the oil is coming from. There is so much oil that it's causing the lines to fall off from being slippery. I have also been noticing a puff of blue smoke coming from my exhaust everytime I start the engine. That's also something new. Could these two problems be related? I'm totally stumped and would appreciate any advice. Thank You
