|woodz428||It will fit, a few minor mods (mounts,etc.), although that trans is the same as a later FMX and they are a fine trans. You could get a '66 or later valve body and install it with a shift kit and the cruiso will be more than up to the task.|

Yes it will, but if the car was mine, I would have the FMX overhauled by a COMPETENT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE SHOP.
The conversion will give you trouble in linkage and driveshaft length at the least. Also be advised that about the year of your BIRD, FORD changed the engine mount pads on the block so take this into consideration if you want to use a later engine.
The 390 can be warmed over easily and still appear to be factory assembly.

Thanks for the replies . I don't think it's the 390 in my car that's limiting me , I think it's the transmission . Will a C6 bolt onto the 63 block ?

Nothing wrong with that old big block, rebuild her (or swap a newer less worn version) and you should have plenty of power. Swapping out the 100 pd cast iron intake with aluminum is one of the first things I would do.
The possibilities are endless...

Hi - Am the owner of a 1963 Thunderbird which I would like to slightly modify to make a nice cruiser . My question is regarding the Engine . Presently it has the original 390 & automatic trans . Would a 390 & C6 out of a newer Ford bolt in ? Would I be better off with a 351W ?
