What does everybody think? I have a 1931 Model A, that I have planned for a LT1 SBC. But I just thought of putting a 440 Chrysler engine in it. I will box the frame for either engine, is there anything else I would need to do to the chassis to hold up to the 440? Do you see many 440's in Model A's? I have never seen one here in Michigan. I also have 383's but I think the 440 would be the best of the 2.

A SBC is a hood full for a Model A........

A 440 is longer, wider and heavier........major firewall issues .......and the width with exhaust may be too wide for a Model A hood to close.......without the 440 being 6 or 8 inches into the car.

Cooling......a whole lot of Model A guys have trouble keeping a 350 Cubic inch Chevrolet cool ........in a Model A. .......And you are going to add almost 100 cubic inches...?

But it would be DIFFERENT.......!!

I agree with Deuce. It can be done but you're looking at some major mods to the firewall at the least. Exhaust won't be a problem if your going fender-less but as Deuce said it sure would be different. :)

One alternative you might consider if you want to go Mopar would be one of the Mopar small blocks 340/360 or even a hopped up 318 might be a better choice. Just a suggestion.

Go for it! Box the frame all the way back. Set the engine back far enough to run the stock water pump / fan combo. Use a good aftermarket radiator (I prefer Walker). The firewall will of course have to be set back and this will take away from interior leg room. If you desire to run a hood; use just the top sections. Leave the side panels off to "Show what You've got" and I think lake pipe style headers would really set the look off well. ENJOY!!!

I like this choice for the difference and the awesome results.
