Won't shift into third while accelerating

Oh thinks I hear a very bad sound coming from my transmission. Something sounded like it let go, and now it will not shift into third while accelerating...but will shift when I start to lift off the pedal....thats when you hear the rattling, but only in third. If I shift down it stops......This is a six month old B&M 350.I do not abuse this car. It is a weekend cruiser. I romp on it a little . Could this be only the torque converter ? How can I tell ? This is my first automatic and I am not sure how to proceed..........jerry
