|Stinkin_V8||Thanks for the replies, guys. When I put it together, I just happened to have a driveshaft kicking around that was really close - gives me about 1/2" clearance. I was thinking that was a little close, but don't know any better. I'm swapping the transfer case and moving the engine back 4" in the near future, just wanted to get the driveshaft cut right when I get to that.|

|gbovaird||Jacking it up is probably the best way, then you can see if there is any problems. You are on the right track. I had always heard 3/4" to 1" play. Sorry not trying to step on your toes Tom, thats what i was told when i had my drive shaft shortened and balanced.|

|Tom||I don't completely understand what your question is but a tranny yoke should be atleast 1 to 1.25 inches from being all the way into the tranny|

Tranny yoke clearance
How much clearance should a guy have between the rear seal on the tranny (actually the transfer case in my case) and the yoke on a street-only vehicle? The shackles on the rear springs are on the back, so with compression it should lengthen the wheelbase right?
I suppose an easy way to tell if I've got enough room is to jack the rear end up from the frame so the wheels just hang there, this should be the shortest the wheelbase will ever get.
