johnsongrass1 Mileage comes from unused power increasing efficiency. Put as much timing as is allowed, probably around 14-16 intial, 36 total by 3000.

Mechanical Advance MSD 8360

I just go my MSD 8360 distributor and need some help on the mechanical advance setup. The springs as it comes from the factory are set up to bring in full mechanical advance at about 5000 rpm. Doing some research on tuning it appears that you want full mechanical advance to come in at 2500 rpm. I have the stock distributor set up that way with initial at 12, mechanical to 32 at 2500 and full advance with vacuum at 50. The 350 runs great but it eats the gas.

I have a Edelbrock 600 cfm carb with performer EPS intake and ceramic headers. Everything else is stock. The engine is in a 72 Chevy 3/4 pickup with automatic.

I would like to set up the advance before installing the distributor since it will be hard to reach afterwards. I am not looking for more horsepower. I would like to set it up for better gas mileage. I can stop the mechanical advance with at different stop block. Currently it is at 21. Should I go to 25?

Any suggestions as to what rpm range it is best to get full mechanical advance? I have 3 sets of springs so I can go from light to heavy depending on what I should use.
