Steering a stang
It can't be that hard, if I could put a tilt chevy col. in a 40 chevy with late model fuse panel in, anybody could. I just got a chevy wiring diagram and labeled all the wires as per color coding and wired . using the late model fuse panel made it easier because it had the quick plug in for the turn signals speed control, and everything coming from the col. The price sounds cool for what he's going to do, as long is he make a clean cut job. I'd want to see some of his work on early models.
P.S. Don't forget that theres going to be a spot in the floor where you had the shifter. You can plug it, but you may need to re carpet the floor. There should be a Fairlane or falcon that had a shifter on them. You might even go with a tilt while you're in there. Marcel

I think I will do it. I called to a guy from Cedartown GA that specializes in steering columns and he said it was a no brainer and could do it for me for 200. He would do all the wiring so the overdrive works and it functions just like factory.
LanierLed you have a cool project going on. I got to talk to a car guy this weekend and he said during warm months off 575 exit 20 there is an impromptu car show like the 1st sat of each month and up to 400 cars show up. Anybody know anything about this?

Someone designed it, why can you re-design it. We change every thing else to suit our selfs, why not the shift col. I'd say go for it. I look more at what someone does and how good a job it is than if it fits my fancy.

Column shifter on a mustang?
I have a 97 gt convertible with an automatic transmission. The floor shifter sits too far forward and IMHO kind of retarded looking. I am considering putting in a column shifter. It would be super easy to do considering Ford uses basically the same components in crown vics and several other models.
For the practical side since it is an auto there is not a lot of shifting going on anyhow. Even if you were a racer who likes to power shift I think you could do it faster with a column rather than have to lean forward, push the lock button in and move the floor lever. With a column you move your hand 3 inches and back to the wheel. Plus it would free up space on the center console for storage and electronic gadgets.
If the car was standard shift I could see it being a little more awkward but it is not. Hell I can not even spout off 4 on the floor. My basic concept is more of a street cruiser than a drag or road racer.
Is this blasphemy? Is a floor shifter such a part of the sports theme going against the grain is verboten? Will I be ridiculed non stop (although that is not a big concern).
