The rear that is currently in my 1941 looks to be some piece on engineering. If there is anyone familiar with this rear or similar rear, my question is this: The stabilizer bars that are mounted to the frame and connected to the axle half way between the pumpkin and the wheel, are they welded on? Even better, if I wanted to remove that axle and put a more up to date one in its place what would be the best route? Money is a concern, even though I would love to have a 4 link system that may not be a viable choice on my salary. Any thought or input would be great. Thanks
been a lot of years, but i seem to remember the axel stud machined in a mechined hole in the axel tube, seems like a 4 link wouldnt be so hard to instal just weild in a bar for upper arms and bracket for the lower arms. GOOD LUCK. JF
Just checked my book and it says the rear radius rod unbolts from the frame, doesn't say about the housing. I would pull the rear, take measurements, and hit the local boneyard. You may get lucky and find a rear that will bolt back in its place. You can always change the spring pad location. Advertise the complete drivetrain, with a good running engine you may be surprised what it will bring. One other thing, the book also says that the retaining screw at the end of each spring has a LEFT-HAND thread.
Hope this helps, Jack
