engineczar Usually just the top two rings with need to be filed but check an oil ring anyway, they're usually pretty wide open as compared to the compression rings.

Personally I never use a ring expander, I prefer to spirol them on. Opinions vary.

Stagger the end gaps as evenly as you can, try to put the top ring gap near the exhaust valve relief and the second ring under the intake valve relief.

Oil the wrist pin well and spread some oil on the skirts don't go too crazy. I like a thin film of ATF on the cylinder walls.

Good luck

Need More Info On Piston Rings

Ok I'll be filing my rings soon, got the filer, have the rings and I just need to ask a few more questions.

When I'm filing the rings is it just the top and second ring? Or the oil ring too?

Is the ring tool that is used to place rings on the pistons easy to use or do I have to be really carefull? Mine is a Blue Point

Do I line up the rings prior to putting them in the bores so the open end of the rings are not underneath each other?

Do I oil the piston up a little before I put it in the band compressor before sliding it into the bore?

Anything else I should know?
