readdirections i also went thru the same problems with my fiberglass trunk lid. i also found pockets under the gel coating. had to go all over with a scratch awl and pick out the pockets, some 1 1/2 " long and sand the cavities and fill with duraglass filler. found it to be the same with my side scoops. i am leary of painting , so i may leave in epoxy primer for a while.

baddbob It sounds like you're taking your time and perfecting the fit, the final product will be well worth all the hard work. I've never seen a fiberglass part that didn't need some amount of straightening or fitting. You're going to have one nice ride when she's all done! Bob

kenseth17 Glad to hear you are making some progress ripped. Just think how good you will become at fiberglassing and shaping after this. I hear you on the not planning on it taking the time it does. That is why if someone asks how long something will take to do, I won't give a firm answer. You never know what hurdles you will run into and have to overcome.

Almost finished fitting / shaping f/g trunk, starting the hood

I have to say I did not think it was going to take 8 weeks of work (after work at night) to fit the fiberglass trunk and extensions, but finally there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Tonight I flipped the trunk upside down, and began to tune up the underside of the edges and lips where reshaping took place, I hope it does not take more than a few nights.

I am now preparing for the fiberglass hood and nose section /fascia. This is much better fitting than the trunk to begin with. I did not think it would take more than a few days. However after my pickiness with the trunk fitment, I think a few days is overly optimistic. I hope that my experince on the trunk will make me a little speedier at taking the right steps in getting the hood aligned, gapped, and shaped to the fender and fascia contours.

I guess if I figure on another 8 weeks, I won't be in a hurry

I am very pleased with how the trunk looks, I'll post some pics soon.
