hello all rodders, i have a 78 chevy nova and a 67 chevy 1/2 ton van with a straight front axle with leaf springs and drum brakes.im wanting to custom fabricate that van axle under the nova sub-frame. I know this is possile but my biggest problem is which steering gearbox to use and with what pitman assembly. Leaf spring shackles brackets are simple and dicarding the nova suspension is simple. any help would be greatful. And is there a web site concerning this kinda swap. thank you rodders. mark..

I take it you're doing some serious drag racing! I can definately see why you'd want to change the front suspention on yours, mine sucks. I don't have too much knowledge about the steering of 60's chevy trucks, but if it's like thier late 70's counterparts, the nova steering box should close to the same ratio as the truck one, if its power assist. Is the truck gearbox power assist or not? My suggestion would probably to go with the truck's steering equipment. This is based on the fact that the truck's springs and drums weigh alot more than the coils/discs (or does yours have front drums  ) that were on the novas.

The only concern is of clearence. How high are you willing to jack up the front end so that the front axle will clear the engine bay? My oil pan only sits 5-6 inches off the ground in my nova! How are you planning to clear it?

This is a really cool idea though, I'd like to hear some more details!
