hey thanks for the reply. I got it apart, but who ever put it in the car the first time did some things that didnt make it come appart real easily like stock. The center shaft should come out with slight pressure but this one was really rusted on. Had to break it to get it out. I did find that one of the guys in our cllllub, who sells tools on a route, knows a guy that rebuilds columns at a junk yard and sells them. Ill go there after work on monday and get the parts to put this back together. thanks

Got a pic? I'm not following where you are stuck at
Have you pulled the sheet metal sleeve that covers the upper housing off yet?...it just slides off but often needs some persuasion
If you need to take the u-joint thing apart you need to "tilt" it 90deg in order for the plastic thing to come out. Have you taken out the tilt hinge pins yet?

Tilt column rebuild
Hi again Im new here and yesterdays post is in the wrong section and is not getting seen. Ive got a 70s tilt GM column in my 37 ford. It is tilt and column shift but has no key in the column. I need to remove the shift sleeve. Im down to it but it wont slide over the U-joint for the tilt. the shaft has to come out. i thought it would just slide out with a little help but its not??
