I'm looking to buy a new race trans for my Nova and have done some looking...TCI, Coan, Hughes....came across ******* Performance on Ebay.... Price looks good...warranty...feedback is good... but I was wondering about any long term use....

If u have used their trannys, I would love to here what you think about it....

I'm a believer in you get what you pay for... but these guys sound pretty good....

Thanks
Nasty

No personal experience, but there has been some talk about them on the T-bucket forum I follow. The few folks that were familiar with them had only positive things to day. One guy's brother-in-law bought a tranny and converter from them and was very satisfied. Two other guys bought converters from them but their buckets aren't running yet so they couldn't comment on performance.

price

One thing to always remember in this hobby,,,there is never a free lunch... Granted there are companys that charge a few ( or manny) dollars more, but the compitition is great and if you were way over priced on something you would be out of business soon...
If you are saving $500.00 on the same transmission there is a reason for it...

I have had transmissions in my shop built by some the the low buck guys and you can tell right away why they are so cheep...

Just an observation from a business owner who deals all the time with price shoppers....

Maybe you should contact them and have them explane why there transmissions are so much cheeper.... i am sure there answer will make the choice for you much easyer.....

as I said in the initial post I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" ... that said "you also pay for the name" ... so I try and buy the best that I can afford...

the ******* comes with a 6 month warranty.... the coan was a 90 day warranty

just thought I would see what people thought of them... I'm just running a bracket car and having a hard time telling myself...(and the wife) that I need to drop 2 grand on a tranny....but, I don't want to stop at local shop that doesn't build race transmissions regularly and end up with one with a kit and a couple extra clutches in it...

No experience with ******* either, but wanted to make sure you understand something pretty important here. Once you said racing, your warranty and gaurantee is a non issue as far as deciding on which tranny/converter company you go with. No warranty, no gaurantee on anything if it is being raced. That said, I agree with previous post on making decision based on best quality parts you can afford. I am very happy with my purchases from ATI transmissions, out of Baltimore MD. They are a full service shop, are experienced in race & street applications with a very knowledgible staff.

******* transmissions

I have had a ******* th350 with a brake and 4800 stall in my S-10 bracket truck for over a year. no problems whatsoever. runs 6.90s in the 8th all day long. Just run bigger cooler lines than the little 1/4 inch stock steel lines to a good cooler,as the brake produces alot of heat.

Recap of Transmission purchased on eBay from RP $1,500 with shipping
FORD C4 TRANSMISSION (LOADED)- C-4 REV MAN TRANSBRAKE

I bought this transmission because I had bought a torque converter previously and had good results.

RP did not usually answer the phone when I called.
RP phone call backs were hours or a day later. Usually late afternoon.
RP closes their entire office for a week.
RP's website is has missing pictures on their web site.
The Registrant Contact for the website URL is Alan Hartmann whose email is ahartman@artcarr.com

1. The transmission that I purchased was leaking excessively after I drove it. Thereafter, it would leak once it got warmed up and I determined it was leaking from inside the bell housing.

2. As suggested by RP, I pulled the transmission and they sent me a new pump and gasket that I replaced.

3. After installing the transmission again it did not leak But, it does NOT go forward or backwards when shifted. It does go in and out of park.

4. As suggested by RP, I put washers on 1/4 inch washers on the torque convertor which was very difficult since the torque is threaded and does not have studs.

5. This washers did not make the transmission work.

6. I asked for a refund but I would have to pay shipping back and only had a 10 days to return.

sorry to hear you have trouble with them... i went with someone else and have had nothing but problems also.... lost second gear after ten races (days) had to pay for another case...$200... plus gaskets...$65... plus ATF and shipping to get it there so i figure $350 plus the PIA of changing it on the floor of my garage and no i dont have a tranny jack.... i paid them and put in what they sent me... I went ten more races (days) and was losing 60ft and ET so i decided to drop the pan to inspect it.. pieces of the case in the pan again, but it had not lost second yet so i called them.. told me to check pressures and get back to them. pressure was @ 200psi... told me it was too high... take it out, get it to them and they would take care of me....HA... its been 2 months... i have called them periodically, they dont answer or the "guy" i need to talk to isn't there... endless excuses... finally got a call Monday from the receptionist, said it was done. The case was good, but the sprag was bad and that i owed them some amount... I said what? there were pieces of the case in the pan... how could the case be good?... of course she could not help me i would have to talk to the "guy" and he's not there, she would have him call me... its now saturday and he has not called... this whole thing has made racing not any fun... so over it... sorry about my long vent... hope you have better luck....

******* converters

I just used a ******* converter less than a year with only 40 passes on it. It came apart and contaminated my transmission with metal filings. You get what you pay for. It took me three days of calling to get in touch with someone to send the converter in. Then it took over a week of calling to get in touch with someone to find out what happen to the converter. I am done with *******!

******* converter.

I have a 3500 stall ******* converter in a T350, no problems so far. Converter works as advertised. I would never ever buy anything from TCI, I am speaking from experience, ZERO customer service, every excuse to not warranty anything! In my opinion, just a company that takes your money and cares nothing for customers.
