Painting with pearl

Help please!!! I'm not a newbie to the paint world,I used to to paint and bodywork up until about 15 years ago, then I went to work in salvage and recycling business.I have a chevy s-10,with a built-up 355 motor and i'm trying to do a custom paint job.I would like for it to turn out a nice red,I ordered, some micronic purple and fire red metallic flakes, some shimmer wine red candy pearl and some red shimmer ghost pearl. But I,m not for sure what color base to use.Would a black base be to dark or should I use a silver or white base coat?Would I get a better paint job if I put the flakes in the base or in the top coat, can you mix the flakes in the pearls? Sorry for so many question's,but any help,Ideas or comments would be greatly APPRECIATED.

Thanks Tom
