DanTwoLakes This machine would probably have a clutch motor. Any industrial sewing machine can be retro-fitted with a servo motor.
In most cases, they bolt right up to the original mounting holes. A clutch motor is either on or off, and a servo motor is a constant torque motor with variable speed.

As far as reverse goes, it is a nice feature to have, but not essential. If you're only going to do a little sewing, you can lift the needle, move it back on the seam you just sewed, and sew over the top of the original seam. The whole idea is to lock the end of the stitch line down, and this method will accomplish that.

Jagman06 Google is a wonderful tool which we both used and the question of whether there is a reverse still remains.

Dusty82 Here's a couple of links for you. Both on the subject of the Singer 16-188.;threadid=11

Or, you could use my search yourself:

Doesn't look like it has reverse, but I may be wrong. Good luck in your search!

Does the Singer 16-188 have a reverse? Does it have a clutch or servo motor (I assume it can be equipped with a servo if not right? Any other comments?
