Im a lil new to land speed suspension and am converting a Mustang II hub over to ball bearing to drop some friction.
Do you know of anybody that might help me find a conversion bearing.
Im using Wilwood Mustang II hubs with Hiedts MSII spindles if it matters.
Just from common sense experience; a ball type bearing won't fit where a tapered roller setup was...there is not enough room. The diameter of the balls need to be of a certain diameter for the expected loads.
Example: The old VW bugs were ball bearing fronts until 66 when they went to tapered roller. The size of the outer races were dramatically reduced in 66, because a tapered roller supports more load due to the width of the rollers, and then the rollers can then be much smaller in OD than a ball.
So if you are stuck with the original rotor bearing race bore, there just won't be enough room.
I hear you f&J,
I know there are guys running balls but not sure what they are doing to get them to fit. Like you said I can get my ID but then my OD is too large .
Ill hope some one chimes in while I search some.
