DoubleVision Being the vortec heads flow far better than the stock TBI swirl ports ever dreamed, then you will need a custom chip burned and likely some dyno time to get the tune correct with a TBI. If you go with a carb you will need a older HEI with mechanical and vacuum advance. You will also need to reduce the fuel pressure down to around 5 to 6 psi, as thats about all a carb can take.

need help w/350 tbi rebuild

Hi guys. im new to this forum but ive been doing a little research around here and i could not find exactly what im looking for. so hopefully you guys can help me.

I have a 94 chevy 1500 with a 350 tbi in it that im rebuilding. ive got a stock vortec engine i pulled out of a 97 tahoe that had a bad block. the cylinder heads still look good but im going to send them to a machine shop to make sure. Im planning on bolting on those cylinder heads on my block and buying a new intake.

This brings up a few questions.
should i keep the tbi system or should i switch to carb? which is cheaper and easier to do.
can i reuse the stock vortec cam or should i purchase an aftermarket one? If i buy one what specs would give me a good idle and a little more performance.
and are there any problems i might run into when using vortec heads on an older model block?

my goal is to build the cheapest engine that can keep up with a stock vortec. i have no budget set but i want it cheap. im not too concerned with gas mileage but i dont want to sacrifice too much in that area either. So please help. Thanks in advance

p.s. Does anyone have a link to the "Vortec head Chronicles" article cuz i cant find it.
