Thoughts on carb

My 79 z/28 currently has a 700 cfm Holley Double Pumper on it. The engine cuts out here and there so I asked around and everyone suggested trying a 600cfm carb. My fiance bought me a Holley Street Avenger 570cfm for my birthday. Do you think 570 is to small? The guy at the store recommended the 570. I was looking at Holley's site and it seems like the 670 would provide more opportunity to upgrade the engine, but still be good enough for my current setup. The 670 is pretty close to a 700 though. I'm not sure what kind of impact 30 cfm's has.

Here is my current setup:

Stock z/28 chevy 350
Edelbrock performer intake
Some cam(no clue what kind)

Holley carbs in all sizes are readily available and really cheap so run what you need at the time. You should be a lot happier with the 570 in a street/rarely strip car than the DP 750 monster in both bottom end drive-ability and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ gas mileage. When you turn the car into a strip/street car, just put the 750 back on or better yet, sell it on ebaY and get a vacuum secondary 650-750 which will keep the bottom end stop-light to stop-light drive-ability and better top end performance. Best of both worlds. All of this assumes you educate yourself on how to properly tune a Holley. Folks who hate them don't know how to tune them. Same goes for Rochester, Edelbrock, etc. carbs. They all are great IF properly tuned.

Thanks for the information. I am definitely glad to hear about the gas mileage. The car eats through 21 gallons of gas in no time with the double pumper.
