I think I should modify my first post. A lot of the old big blocks have been saved by sleeving and or welding and make very good engines but it is expensive to save one. This is usually done by someone restoring a car or by someone wanting a period hot rod. In your case I would recommend going to a newer block, maybe the 454. You will come out cheaper and have more power. Sorry if I mislead you.

What about the Hemi Regal? That junk Chevy Big Block won't fly so how about getting up the cash for the Hemi and keeping us posted as to your progress?? You will need 18.5" wide tires on the rear and all the other stuff I told you about to be safe on the street. Why build a belly button car, push the envelope and go with the Hemi instead!! Just ask HemiGremmie about his project! CK the posts and you'll see we ALL support him! That is a great idea he came up with, a Hemi Gremmie!!

If you are going to work your way up to a 454, why not just go that route first instead of putting money into something that you already that has major problems. While there are not an over abundance of 396's they are not rare and it sure is not rare enough to bring a big amount of money when it is stuffed into a Buick Regal. But if you are bound and determined to go with the 396 then go right ahead. In your first posting you asked about sleeving it and got two negative opinions. Now you ask about sleeving it again. Do what you feel like you can afford. If you don't run it balls out all the time after it's put together you should be alright.

Its junk, tell me where you are at and I'll come down and haul it away for you. Seriously, if the machine shop sleeves it correctly, it will give you no problems. All they're doing is putting in a new cyl. It can be bored and honed just like the old cyl. Find a good auto machine shop and go for it.

I wrote a previous message about my 396 that I want to put in my Buick Regal and I am thankful for the responses that I got but I still have a couple of questions that I need answered. The 396 block needs a sleeve, does that mean that there is no chance for the block even if I get a sleeve and build and condition the whole block? I wanted the 396 because they are more rare than a 454. After the 396 I wanted to move up to a 454. I would really appreciate it if someone would help me with some info, I also wanted to know if the sleeve is put in the block and I still build it, what are any of the cautions I need to be concearned about during my build up.
