Old question....new problem....driveline angles?

Guys,

I've had several people tell me that the ideal drive angle for my combination....4L60E and C4 IRS would be between 2.5 and 3 degrees. The rear end wont be any problem....but darn if the transmission is close enough. I'm at 5 degrees. I cant raise the transmission any more....and cant lower the motor without notching the top of the frame (A/C clearance). I really dont want to go with a different pulley system. I know to angle the rearend pinion at 5 degrees opposite of the transmission so theyre center lines are parrallel. No problem there. But.....do you see any drive line problems down the road for me? I'm not going to mind replacing u-joints....but just wanted some thoughts before I commit to finish mounting the rear end.

Also, I think I found the answer by doing a search but I still want to ask. I plan on cooling the transmission with nothing but a pair of dual pass 18" heat sink style coolers from Jegs. Think it will be suffient enough? I'll be placing them on the inside of the frame rails....away from the exhaust. My exhaust is going to be under the running boards....of all places. :D There actually is plenty of room.

Thanks,
Dave

I wouldn't worry too much about your "U" joints. The longer the drive shaft the lower the working angle the "U" joints will have. If it was a "T" bucket with an 18" drive shaft then there might be reason for concern but a full sized rod you should not have a problem.

When it comes to trans coolers I always use the style that mounts in front of the radiator. Never used the frame mounted versions so I don't know how well they cool.

I agree. The drive shaft should be as long or longer than my Jeep. It was at 15 degrees and all seemed fine....with the exception of ripping my fender skirts off in hard corners...LOL's. I set it up with buggy spring suspension. Made anyone who rode in it grip the seat! LOL's. Anyway....I felt like it would be fine.....but this critter is different than my Jeep.....must be just right! I felt more comfortable asking before I started painting the frame.

I may have this question answered now. I found a few guys that are running nothing but one dual pass heat sink without any problems.....thats what I needed to hear.

Thanks Centerline.

Centerline's right about the coolers. Frame mounts are Ok for drag only cars but don't cool enough in stop & go traffic.
I found a few guys that are running nothing but one dual pass and arent having any issues with overheating. I am however adding a means of monitoring trans temp so I will know for sure what it is doing. I have the perfect test mule.....Branson traffic. It crawls in the summer I dont figure I'll be driving this truck until next summer anyway. LOL's. Maybe!

Thanks so much.
