Freshly rebuilt 350 sbc out of a 72 vette. Motor sat for 2 years after rebuild. Just dropped it in 2 months ago.
I've had problems with the Q jet overflowing recenlty. Rebuilt it and it seemed to aleviate the problem.

Rich mixtures almost always show up as black or dark grey smoke. Light blue smoke is always burning oil. Its pretty easy to mistake the "2-stroke" smell as too much gas, or its possible its running rich in addition to the burning oil.
What car are we discussing? How many miles?

Probably the fastest way to ck the source of smoke would be to pull a few plugs and take a look at them. If they are black, it's way too rich.
You may have a carb problem OR it may just need to be jetted down.
Having the choke open all the time will not cause it to smoke. It may run lean when cold and be temperamental, but no smoke.

Light blue smoke, heavy gas smell.. Q JET
I've started to drive my car a bit more often now and notice that it tends to smoke when I come to a stop. It very well could be smoking while I'm driving but I can't notice it. The smoke appears to be light blue with a strong smell of gas. I read somewhere that it could be running too rich. So i thought about fiddling with the fuel mixtures screws with the hopes of correcting the problem. As we all know Q-jets can be a bit tough to work with especially if you dont know them. I've done a few google searches and there are hundres of pages that go into alot of detail. I've read about 30 pages and still have no clue....
Another thing I must mention is that the choke is currently open at all times. My quadrajet is a manaul choke but I've never "closed" the choke manually after the car has warmed up. Could this be why it smokes also???
