I just really, really thought that the weak nose pressure of the stock GM roller springs would just not be able to keep up as the RPM's increased... but whaddya know, they did.
All those old production SBC high-performance cams, hydraulic or solid, since ~1968 were used with the same valve springs that came with Grampa's 2-bbl 307 econo-motor. The stock Vortec springs have very similar specs.
That's not to say a spring upgrade's a bad idea, but sometimes factory parts work together better than one might imagine.
