There are no `91 Vortec heads. Vortecs were released in `96. However, the name Vortec first appeared in the 80`s on chevy trucks and many engines even had the name on the valve covers but these had the horrible swirl vane 193 castings on them. Many have been taken by that, and many have sold the swirl vane heads as Vortecs just because of the name. Real vortec heads are unique, they have 8 intake bolts instead of the classic 12 and they have heart shaped combustion chambers. The casting numbers for Vortecs are 906 and 062. Always do your home work before you buy, if not your asking to get taken. I see so many on ebay selling "camel hump 302 DZ heads" it makes me sick.

I think quite a few people are misguided when they see center bolt valve covers... they automatically think "vortec heads"... not so. As DV said... 906's or 062's... if you are a 'symbol' identifier... the symbol of vortec resembles... /\/\/\ - the 'sawtooth'

Ya I didn't think they were vortecs thats just what I was told the vortecs come on an LS block anyway right?. So my stock '70 something heads would be better than those '91 heads? And so that would mean I would be better off making an adapter plate to put the TBI on my edelbrock intake?

well there are 'vortec' LS engines but cylinder heads from LS series engines and Gen II's are not compatible, totaly different blocks.

70's heads? Uhm... I really don't know, it depends on your castings... 041's, 186's, and 414's, and 492's all good for very early 70's... other than those I don't think a decent head has surfaced.

Making an adapter... I don't know about that either... if you think you can shoot for it.

Ok so I should take the intake to a machine shop and have them ream out the center holes in the tbi intake? The heads I have are: head #1 333882 74-80 350/400 76cc chamber head #2 3998993 72-73 307/350 75cc or current 350 goodwrench hecho mexico 75cc chamber are these good or bad? They have had work done to them not sure what I bought the motor with them on it the block is the one mentioned above so should I look for something better?

Given the choices there, dump the 882's, they flow decent but are crack prone.
Use the 993's. We use them and they are very popular in circle track racing where we are limited to the open chamber heads. Flow is decent as long as you have the bigger valves, and you can mill a bunch off them if you want to make more compression, i.e. I have a set on the shelf that I just milled down to 65cc. You'd need to mill your intake or the intake surface on the head to use something like that, but my point is they are a solid, durable head that flows decent.

OK i'm not sure if my last post was clear the one of those heads is one side of the motor and the other is on the other side they were a pair on the motor when i got it now if the 882's are crack prone then that might be why my motor started running crappy ok so how about this set of heads and this is a set the numbers are 462624 both heads have the same number so would these be better

My experience with the 624's is they are crack prone too.
They don't flow well, and often have the 1.72 intake valves.
On the positive side, they make a good door stop!
