I recommend you contact Pertronix. They may sell replacement parts like this, or say to send it in for refurbishing. They may have had a bad batch of parts, or a temporary machining, or assembly problem. At least they will know you have a problem, or add you to a list of other complaints.
It's worth at least an email.

Also, check the upper ball bearing for wear and inspect the lower part of the housing where it passes the right side lifter oil for a tight fit in the block and for cracks.

|bracketracer||The vent hole is is where the base of the distributor starts to get wide on the front side its right under where the cap goes on, i also pluged the vent one day then it forced oil into the cap and made a huge mess. Thanks for your replys and help. John|

Here is a link, that explains it's construction. I'll bet it is the lower, oil impregnated, self oiling bronze bushing, that is worn. Where is the vent hole located?

|Rustydawg||I'm thinking oil not properly draining down from the lifter valley and getting pushed up the distributor, maybe from crank windage, I dunno.|

Im having trouble with my pertronix flame thrower distributor, driving around at lower rpm no problem, when i take it to the track about 3/4 track it starts pumping oil out of the vent hole on the distributor, so much that it gets on the headers and make alot of smoke. Has anyone had trouble with these? ive had it almost 3 years and it just started doing this, ive had it apart and cant see any reason why its doing it. My motor is a 355 chevy, have to run a small cap distributor its in my 1955 chevy wagon. Also theres no crank case pressure ive checked that thinking that could be it, but it doesnt push any oil out of the breathers or dip stick tube. This is driving me crazy, i shift the motor at 6400 rpm, its also got a solid cam in it. any suggestions would be appreciated thanks John.
