abigassbowtie my first cam was a summit cam 234 244 488 510 with 1.94 1.60 fulie heads preformer rpm flat tops and a 600 cfm holley and it was still to big that was on a 355 IMO anyway

Son, you've made one of the most common rookie mistakes with your cam selection. The camshaft itself does not dictate the power made in a motor. It is just one part that must be matched with all the other parts in the motor to do a good job at whatever it is you want the motor to do.

To do its job correctly, that cam will need a static compression ratio of somewhere between 10.5:1 and 12.0:1 and will make power from 3500 to 7000 rpm's.

Yep. I've seen it 10,000 times. Someone, got bad internet advice. A cam will give the motor personality, but will not determine power.

Most annoying comment ever in my book "THOSE HEADS MAKE SOME POWER!" shut up....

Sad fact, but very true. How many times have we heard a grond pounding thumper with a radical cam that cannot pull itself off dead center? Sounds bad to the bone, but it's a real DOG.

Son, you've made one of the most common rookie mistakes with your cam selection. The camshaft itself does not dictate the power made in a motor. It is just one part that must be matched with all the other parts in the motor to do a good job at whatever it is you want the motor to do.

327supreme yea i kno wut your saying, i just got the motor from a guy and dropped it in my cutlass so i haven't really got much more than that yet. just got it running late this afternoon. the guy i got it from wasn't a lot of help either.i put the cam in it has .560 lift and a duration of 243/251. other than that everything else seems stock internally. but like i said im goin to find out more about it just takes time. this is my first time trying to build my own motor so this is pretty much my toy.

327NUT Well with that little bit of info there's no way to even make an educated guess. How about cam spec's, compression etc???

horsepower?? any guesses

i have a 327 that is bored .030. all that is done to it as of now is it has a performer carb 600 cfm, and a voodoo cam. anybody wanna take a guess to how much power im making??
