5_speed As I recall only the 72' Novas VIN actually specifically denotes the option package on the car such as SS.

I found this link which talks about the SS

i have a ********** i want to sell, some parts
and just bought a 69 Nova SS #'s matching 350/300 hp "HA" code, 4speed bucket seat car
just want to find out for sure its real
and a lot of other stuff
