|jimfulco||Hole "A" in my '59 283 block was drilled, but not threaded. I threaded it myself (3/8" x 16 tap size) and put it in a '69 Nova using the original 6-cylinder starter, flywheel, and bellhousing.|

700R4 to '58 283 flexplate and starter
About three years ago I acquired a 1958 283 sbc (complete). It came with the original cast iron powerglide. Now I want to use the 283 in a project. Attached to the engine is a factory adapter that allows you to bolt on the powerglide.
The powerglide has a smaller bolt pattern than the "newer" versions we are all used to. The adapter also has the mount for the starter. The original starter is held in place by three bolts, that run horizontal to the starter, not vertical to the starter like on the "new" engines.
In the area where you would mount a traditional starter are two holes that look like a starter could be mounted. I plan to run a 700R4 with this 283.
My question is: does anybody know what starter and flexplate will work on my 283 to allow me to use the 700R4.
Any help would be appreciated.
