|ww454ss||If you visit theturboforums.com. Those guys make unrealistic power on near stock motors. I have read a few builds where guys have crept in to the 9's on stock motors. Of course they are on borrowed time but, there set up only cost them around 4-5k and they will put the hurt on a lot of guys who put 4 times that into just the motor. A lot of the guys who do junkyard builds are making awesome power and there set ups cost next to nothing but, aren't reliable. If you want it to be fast and reliable you gotta spend the money. I am planning a build right now and I am planning on it taking a few years, not because I work slow but, because I figure I could slowly buy the best parts at a rate I can afford.|

Everybody has an opinion, here's mine.
Since it obviously will take $25,ooo minimum to get the car together
I would find a good turbo or blower engine builder and have him do the whole thing, because the chassis and body need major mods to make it useable.
That way the $40 thousand or so will feel like it is well spent when everything works like it should.

This guy probably has right around 1000hp @ the wheels. IIRC his setup uses $200 ebay headers.
Stock 1996 1 pc rear seal, 4 bolt block. JE flat top N20 pistons, Eagle H-beam rods, Stock 1996 3.48 stroke crank. Stock 8 inch balancer
12 bolt w/3.73's, strange S/S spool, and Superior axles.
Here it is running a 10.18 @ 137 but its best run so far has been 8.9 @150

A lot of cubic inches and a load of Nitrous. A streetable motor can easily make 1 HP per cubic inch or more and be very driveable. So I think a 672 could make 750hp. Then add some funny gas when ya need it.
Lots of $$$$$$ Gene Fulton comes to mind.

OK here goes.
[i am wandering what would be the best way to achieve around 900-1100 hp outta any Chevy engine basically used for quarter mile drags but still street legal for Iowa to cruise around in.]
A new/well built Blown BBC, with Nitrous Injection as mentioned. Expect a cost of around $40K. This will get you almost, or just more than 1000 HP. (I got 981HP this way, 481CID BBC)
A Banks twin turbo system is intriguing to me, as I have not run a Banks system yet.
Note: You still will need that well built BBC, and I will add a conservative figure of $3K for the difference of parts, and exhaust plumbing.
Let me add this. Just over 30 years ago, I built a 560HP Twin Turbo Boss 302 Ford. The name of the old man that helped me design, and install the Turbos escapes me now. This total project cost me $22K back then. (I am better with numbers LOL)

You raised the bar to 2,000 HP being possible; Yes it is, but this is not a total drag race designed vehicle, he also wants street ability.
I am not a rocket scientist, but I know the 'cause and effect' of Nitro Methane Fuel class, Top Fuel class, and Pro Gas class fuels.
2,000 HP? What a joke.

It's a dream I think we all have. And it is entirely possible, but as all have noted not cheap.
The next question is how do I build a drivetrain, suspension, and chasis to take 1,000hp... Everyone seems to forget that part.
