1966Fairlane Thanks "ericanova72" for the info. I plan on getting one of those ram air hoods from Crites for my fairlane. I also have power steering so I hope that the headers will clear. We shall see.

Thanks for the advice "deadbodyman." These forums are new to me so I am doing my best

ericnova72 Helped a close friend do this with a 67. You will need a front sump 351W oil pan if your 351 doesn't already have it. 289-302 motor mounts. The 289 headers fit and clear if you don't have power steering, the outlets just come out closer to the floor because the motor is taller. (don't know about w/power steering). Better rebuild the C-4 for hi-perf while the motor is out and it is easier to get to it. (we used a small pattern C-6) I don't know if the Vic Jr will clear a stock hood, he had a repro fiberglass 427 scoop hood from Crite's Restoration, we opened the scoop on the underside to fit the air cleaner up into the scoop with the Vic Jr. I was impressed at the quality of the hood- very nice.

1966Fairlane Sounds good. I do have some headers that I want to place on it.
Lucky for me the engine came complete with everything (oil pan, ect.).
Thank you for the info.

hotrod charlie Your 351w will fit. They use the same motor mounts and bellhousing as a 289 302 and even the early modle 351c. Your headers will also fit but they will be colse to the oil pan because the 351w has a 1 inch taller block height. The 351 uses a diffrent oil pan and intake. Only the 351W will fit

1966Fairlane Mistakes are not "pretty irresponsible." I apologize for any issues. I will make sure that I use the correct forum next time. New to forums so I am still learning.

I am new to the forum and have some tech. questions. I have a 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible and I want to put in a 1984 351W in. I was hoping not to have too many issues b/c I believe it will bolt up nice to my C4 that my 289 was attached.
I was thinking about a comp. cam (may thumper), forged pistons, Victor Junior intake, and later some AFR heads. I want as much low end power that I can get but still be able to use it as my daily driver.
I have gotten info. from other people but do want to know what ya'll think.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

WHY would you post the same question in 2 different sections?? Especially after there were over 12 responses prior to posting this one. The answers will be the same. Pretty irresponsible. The moderator should kill this thread of combine it...what a waste.
For Tim, any car that can clear a 390 engine won't have clearance issues with a 351W, it will have room to spare. Unless a Tunnel ram is planned and that doesn't make a difference which engine you use.

351

351's are taller... in some swps there are clearance to hood problems. there's a falcoln fairlane site that has a lot of info about upgrading older compact -mid ford products
