slodat Could you make your Ford logo a snap in insert? Then you could hide screws or studs under the logo. I know it would be in the center, but it could add a lot of the needed strength to the mounting setup..

DanTwoLakes There's another way to do it using screw in studs and fabric covered buttons that go over the top of the studs once they are screwed in. The buttons are called Dura Snap buttons. Or, you could use the screw in studs and chrome or colored snap on buttons. ( the kind used on boat covers)

Wantabe Hoping you wouldn't say that. I was trying to come up with a way not to use screws. I believe your right and I'll have to screw it down. Haven't give up on it yet tho. Still looking and think. But I'm just about running out of ideas. What ever i do. I'll let yea know. Car does ride rough. It has coilover drag race suspension in rear and only has about 2 1/2 to 3 inches of travel. Then it smacks the coilover bump rubbers. So it needs to be mounted strong. Probably use some screws with black covers. Thanks Tim

DanTwoLakes I would be concerned with the vibration back there and the bouncing the rear end does when going over a bump. It could break the clips away from the fiberglass, and then you'd be doing it all over again. You might want to screw the lid on instead of using the clips, unless you can get the clips to hold really, really tight. There are a couple ways to screw it on. The simplest is to just use chrome or stainless finish washers, or you can buy Au-Ve-Co oval head tapping screws that have a washer already attached. I would drill a real small pilot hole for the screws through the fiberglass insert and the trunk lid all at the same time before putting any fabric over the closed cell foam. Good luck.

Wantabe Thanks Dan, I have a few questions if you don't mind. I made this rear deck lid insert out of fiberglass. It came out good, but it has some small dips. In other words its not completely flat. I used some bondo to fill most of the dips. But it started to get heavy. So i stopped and thought it would be better to use some closed cell foam. I bought some 1/4 inch thick closed cell foam. Still have some 1/8 inch left over from headliner. So i figure id cover it with 1/4 then sand it down so its flat. Then i would like to put a Ford emblem in the middle. See link. Using black and blue leather. I bought two different type of clips to attach it to the deck. Do you believe the clips will hold it on ? My guess is it should weigh like 5 pounds when done. Any info you could share would be greatly appreciated. Its almost completely flat now. So it would only require a little sanding to be flat. Then i could start on my design.
pic of emblem. Ive never have worked with this foam. So any info on how to go about making this design would help a lot. Thanks Tim

DanTwoLakes Good job. I really like the console door and the subwoofer box.
You're going to have a great looking car when you're done.

Wantabe Hey guys, wanted to update this thread. Got my console completed, and my trunk is almost complete. Changed the design on my sub woofer box and where its at. Now its a spare tire well sub box. I used some black and blue leather. Made a design out of plywood. Then covered it with lift over headliner foam. Black leather is what i bought to do my seats. Didn't like it as well as some other black i bought. Might as well use it up. Most of it will go in trunk area. Now summer is in full force. probably wont do much more till it cools off. Just to hot right now. This winter I'll finish it and post some final pics. Dan Thanks for all your help. Tim............ I have to get some more of sub box installed. Its sets in the middle of trunk floor and carpet is flush with the leather. Just need to get some new pics.

Wantabe Believe it or not. I just received a sample of my snake. So here it is. What do you think ? She does have to order some silver thread. Thread she was using to make this sample was breaking. So she is getting thicker thread and some leather needles for her machines. I like it. Looks killer in person. Thanks Tim,,,,,,I'm still at it..

Wantabe So no one has an opinion on what colors ?? OK silver/ black and blue it is. Thanks guys. Or no one gives a %^$&..

Wantabe I guess at this point i should just make the best of it. Get some opinions on what everyone thinks would look best. I wanted it metallic silver and black like the ones on the side of my car. Except the snake would have a blue belly and i ask her to make the eye red. Ive painted the belly on the ones on my car. So ask her to make them match. This is the same pics i sent her and the same emblems that are on the side of my car. Headrest looks good. It has the word Shelby just like the console, so i'll keep them. Just have her down size it on the console and redo the ones on seats. What colors do y'all think would look good on the snake ? Any opinion welcome. Thanks Tim

Wantabe Yes i payed her. The bad part is I've known her and her husband for years and they are good people. She will take care of it I'm sure. Just makes me mad. I'll have to wait till i cool off and go in. She is one of the nicest persons that i've ever met. She tried to change my headliner and i found out before she had a chance to do it "her way". She wanted to make it smaller and i had here make it big as she could. Maybe she figure that i wanted this snake as big as possible also. This time i was busy and didn't stop by to check on it. She doesn't do any car stuff. Mostly hat and shirts, stuff like that. I should of stayed on her and make sure she did it the way i wanted. This job has been two steps forward and one back from the beginning. I shouldnt be surprised....

DanTwoLakes I hope you didn't pay her for inferior work. It's her job to do what you want, not what she thinks looks good.

Wantabe More to it then just how it looks. You can see from the pics that i have about 8 inches total room for this snake. The snake she made is 8 1/2 inches long. I gave here both pieces of material. The original and the new one i cut. I did tell here that i probably wouldn't put the pleats back in like the original. But still it wont fit. If you look close you can see where the word Shelby touches the blue french stitch on my console lid. So this cost me 250. For wrong color and just all around crappy job. Why she made this snake that big and the wrong color i just don't understand. I couldn't believe it when i first seen it. I didn't pick it up. Wife had a doctors appointment and i sent one of my guys down to pick it up. BAD DAY.... It was like, don't talk to me right now. Just stay away from me for a while. 250 + another hide and i need to make a new console lid cover. I'll never will go back. I sent two e-mails and pics, size and colors of what i wanted and all of the leather to make sure it was right. I don't get it and this took three weeks of my time. Kind of just makes you want to say F.I.
