I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 and 4.0 engine with the automatic trans (3 speed/no over drive).
The trans changes gears 1st to 2nd fine but from 2nd to Drive it seems to take a lot longer to finally shift .Sometmes 3000 rpm or more.
I changed the trans filter and put in the +4 atf that is required as well as Lucas trans additive but it still act up.
It seems to shift better after everything warms up.
The trans holds well in all gears with no slipping once it is in each gear.
Any ideas before It goes to the shop tomorrow?

Is this a high mileage vehicle - transmission?

I would be looking at the TV linkage from the engine to the transmission. Broken bushing, it popped out of adjustment.

If you live in the snow belt areas , this linkage can corrode , become sticky.

Unless you have engine problems and you are stepping on the throttle harder while the engine is cold
