New fan with adjustable temp control help
I just purchased a larger electric fan and want to control it with my Flex-a-lite adjustable temperature control. The way I had it hooked up to my other fan was simple- 12v switched to one post and the other post went to the pos on the fan, the ground to the fan went to the battery. The new fan wiring diagram is where the problem is. This fan shows the following:
70 amp fan relay with the following post:
Red load feed in (30)
Black ground trigger (85)
Orange load feed out (87)
Pink 12v trigger (86)
The directions say from the electric fan sending unit (my Flex-a-lite) to run one wire to the black ground trigger with the other wire from the sending unit to ground. The problem is there is no ground on my sending unit. The sending unit has a metal probe that goes into the radiator, one wire to 12v switched and one to the positive wire on the fan. The way I figure it when the probe get up to temp (185) it completes the circuit between the 12v switched and the positive wire going to the fan at which time the fan comes on.
The directions go on to say the wire from the orange load fee out on the relay goes to pos. on the fan, pink wire from 12v "key on" source to the 12v trigger on the relay and the red load in on the relay goes to the battery pos. With no way to complete the circuit at the temp. control sending unit I can not figure how to make it work. Should I run one post (that use to go to the pos. on the fan) to a ground and the other post (that use to go to the 12v switched) to the black ground trigger and this would turn on the fan when the probe gets up to temp?
